University-wide Initiative Launched to Commemorate the Passage of the 19th Amendment

Beverly Wendland, dean of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, and Senator Barbara Mikulski, now a Homewood Professor at Johns Hopkins, have launched a university-wide initiative to recognize the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. The year-long commemoration, which culminates on August 26th, will include partnerships with several Baltimore cultural institutions; art exhibitions featuring various memorabilia from the movement; special courses for undergraduate and graduate students; and interviews and lectures with some of Hopkins’ most notable experts on the topic, exploring the history behind passage of the amendment as well as its effects on female empowerment in the United States today.
