May Garrettson Evans: “Hustle for News”

May Garrettson Evans

The Peabody Institute has produced an online exhibit on one of the most notable women in its history, May Garrettson Evans. After beginning her career in 1888 as the first female reporter at The Baltimore Sun, Evans went on to found and direct the Peabody Preparatory, which has educated thousands of community members in music and dance since 1894. The exhibit celebrates her accomplishments as a newsroom trailblazer, community-minded educator, and Edgar Allan Poe scholar. The online exhibit is available at http://bit.ly/MGEvans.
